He became famous as a world-class novelist, poet, writer, zoologist, translator, playwright, autobiographer, screenwriter, entomologist, university teacher, literary critic, journalist and science fiction writer. However, the Russian-American novelist, lepidopterist, professor was especially known for his remarkable looks and his delightful personality.
